QUICK READ: EDC reaches out to local communities and LGUs to help with COVID relief efforts.
Lopez-led geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) continues to provide assistance to its partner communities and local government units apart from generating uninterrupted supply of clean, renewable power as the country continues to conquer the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“EDC has ensured that its employees’ needs have been taken care of so we’d like to pass that same care and support on to those who need it even more,” said Norreen G. Bautista, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Mount Apo and in Negros Island. “We at EDC recognize our duty to help our fellow Filipinos in whatever way we can.”
In Kidapawan, Cotabato, where EDC’s 106-megawatt Mount Apo geothermal plant is located, the CSR team is all hands on deck as it reaches out to the local communities and local government units (LGUs) to provide assistance to their COVID relief efforts.
The team recently turned over two 20-foot air-conditioned container vans to Governor Nancy Catamco to be used as extra isolation rooms for the Amas Provincial Isolation Center. Governor Catamco expresses her gratitude to the company, “By working together, our province will get through these challenges.”
Four 20-foot air-conditioned container vans were received by Mayor Joseph Evangelista of Kidapawan, a welcome addition to the quarantine facilities that have been put up in the region to accommodate the increasing number of persons infected with the virus.
“Kidapawan City is thankful to EDC for its foresight and for providing what we need for our fight against COVID-19, like these container vans,” said Mayor Evangelista.
Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista received the 100 pieces of PPE kits with a coverall suit, a face mask, a face shield, and a shoe cover per kit.
The Mount Apo CSR team also donated personal protective equipment (PPE) kits composed of facemasks, face shields, gloves, cover shoes, and coverall suits to local government units. Personnel manning the checkpoints in the region were also provided with backpack sprayers and drums of alcohol to ensure that proper disinfection is implemented.
The Mount Apo CSR Team also put up a fund donation campaign dubbed “KaBahagi, Basti” from its site employees to help address the needs of the city’s marginalized sectors.
The barangay officials and staff of Barangay Ilomavis headed by Hon. Datu Jimmy Matawil received the 640 sacks of rice for the consumption of the residents of Barangay Ilomavis.
As part of EDC’s COVID relief efforts, six hundred forty-four sacks of rice for 3,220 households in Baranggays Ilomavis, Balabag, and Kawayan were also donated to affected families. Barangay Captain Jimmy Mantawil thanked EDC on behalf of his community, saying, “Thank you for the endless help and support you have given. God bless your volunteers, as well as the company staff and management.”
